Abease Omanhene Orders Mandatory Tagging of Tricycles to Curb Rising Farm Produce Theft

The Omanhene and President of the Abease Traditional Council, who also serves as the Vice President of the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs, His Royal Majesty Obrempong Kru Takyi II, has issued a strong directive mandating all tricycle and motorking (popularly known as “Carbiri”) owners and operators in the Abease Traditional Area to acquire permanent identification tags.

The new directive, announced on Thursday, November 20, 2025, during a meeting with the Association of Tricycle/Motorking Owners and Operators, forms part of efforts to combat the increasing incidents of farm produce theft—particularly yam and other food crops—in the area.

HRM Obrempong Kru Takyi II described the situation as worrying, noting that the toils and investments of farmers must not be undermined by criminal activities. He further disclosed that tricycles and motorkings will no longer be allowed to operate between 6:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m., adding that anyone who violates the directive will be arrested and sanctioned according to the association’s by-laws.

He also directed that tricycle and motorking owners who refuse to join the association will not be permitted to operate in any community under the Abease Traditional Area. Additionally, each community will receive unique numbering tags to distinguish registered tricycles and ensure easy identification.

The Omanhene urged the association’s leadership to work closely with the Town Development Committee (TDC) to expedite the registration and tagging exercise, stressing that the initiative is aimed at protecting farmers’ livelihoods while promoting accountability among operators.

Youth Leader for Abease, Mr. Yaw Sarfo Kennedy Awudu (Chairman Awudu), who led members of the association to meet the Traditional Council, expressed gratitude to the chiefs for endorsing their operations. He assured the Council of the association’s readiness to comply with the new directive and promised to ensure that the tagging process is completed within the shortest possible time.
