The King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom and President of the Savannah Region House of chiefs Yagbonwura Soale Jewu Bii- Kunuto (I) has appealed to candidates of the Savannah Region writing in this years Basic Certificate Examinations and the West African Senior Schools Certificate Examinations to make the region proud by becoming best in the country.
Yagbonwura in an address read on his behalf by the Paramount chief of the Kusawgu Traditional area, Kusawguwura Soale Alhasan at the Damongo Senior High School in Damongo on yesterday during an interaction with the candidates of the Senior High School and the JHS to wish them the best of luck in the examination take their time in answering the questions as what they are writing is not different from what the studied in their various schools before the examination.
The Kusawgu wura, reading the speech of Yagbonwura said the story of the performance of schools in the region is not of the best in the previous years and therefore appealed to them to change the narrative this year adding that the blessings of the land will guide them to come out with flying colours at the end.
He also used the opportunity to caution them on substance abuse since that is destroying the youth of today.
The Yagbonwura said drug and other dangerous substances are being introduced into body systems of the youth of today which is very dangerous for their health and therefore appealed to them to disengage in such behaviours.
The Municipal Director of Education for the West Gonja Mr Akey Ferguson on behalf of the Savannah Region director of education addressing the gathering thanked the Yagbonwura for his words of encouragement for the students and assured him that the story will surely change this year.
He indicated that this is the first time the Yagbonwura is adding his voice by visiting the examination centers which according to him tells the extent education has become his topmost priority and applauded him for his fatherly concern in the region.
Some sub-chiefs and Queen mother's across the region were part of the interactions with the over 902 candidates of the JHS including the some senior high school candidates writing in this years examination.
