Sony Achiiba, a butcher at Damongo Canteen, is reportedly missing from the Damongo Municipality after an angry youth group launched a search for him, citing his alleged role in livestock theft in the Municipality.
Two brothers, Gafaru and Mohammed, in their late 20s, along with Nnabaali (who is currently on the run), are allegedly involved in the theft and slaughter of a sheep belonging to a local resident in Yagbonkura, Damongo Municipality
Mr Abdul Majeed, alias CR7, the owner of the animal, reported that approximately six of his sheep went missing a few days ago. He stated that the suspects were caught with a freshly slaughtered sheep after they allegedly admitted to frequently selling the stolen animals to Sony Achiiba, a prominent butcher in the Canteen electoral area.
However, upon receiving information that the name Sony Achiiba was mentioned in the investigation, Sony Achiiba allegedly fled and has since not been located.
The name Sony Achiiba is very popular with every goat,sheep and cattle stealing as many of his cases are still pending.
It will be recalled that somewhere last year, Sony Achiiba was summoned before the overlord of Gonja for allegedly stealing and killing a cow for sale.
Meanwhile, an enraged crowd, primarily composed of youth from the area, nearly lynched the suspects, blaming them for the increasing insecurity of their livestock, but for the timely intervention of the Ghana Police Service, which averted mob justice and ensured the suspects were taken into police custody. Residents are demanding swift investigations and justice to serve as a deterrent, while the police continue their search for Nnabaali and Sony Achiiba.
