The Savannah Region's development is being hindered by the scattered nature of it's decentralized departments across various districts. This fragmentation will stifle the region's growth if key departments like health, agriculture, and highways are moved out of the regional capital, Damongo.
As the capital of the Gonja Kingdom, Damongo embodies the unity and heritage of the Gonja people. Centralizing these departments will enhance administrative efficiency, stimulate economic growth, and foster unity among stakeholders. It will also enable Damongo to emerge as the region's premier urban center, driving road infrastructure development and expanding economic opportunities.
While decentralizing administrative offices to other districts may work in other regions, it's not feasible for the Savannah Region due to the dispersed nature of its districts. This would make management expensive, considering the distance between districts and the inadequacy of business amenities like banks, conference rooms, and accommodations in some of the districts where these offices are located.
Instead, repurposing some of the already built regional offices infrastructure in these districts as district departments can be a viable solution. For example, the regional health directorate infrastructure in North Gonja District can be used as an office for the District health directorate or National Health Insurance office. Similarly, the Department of Agric office in Doli in the Bole District can be converted into a veterinary training college, serving the people of Bole and beyond.
As we review, reflect and reset our nation, I want to make a passionate appeal to His Excellence John Dramani Mahamah who is also an illustrious son of the region to consider regrouping these departments in Damongo.
This strategic move will pave the way for the region's growth and development, fostering a path of progress and unity.By consolidating and repurposing the decentralized departments, we can create a brighter future for the Savannah Region.
