The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in the Savannah Region today 30th September, 2025 extended support to several communities in the Bole District affected by the recent conflict in Gbiniyiri.
The donation included:
- *60 bags of rice*
- *15 cartons of cooking oil*
- *100 buckets*
- *150 plastic cups*
The beneficiary communities were Flemayiri, Bale, and Horiyiri.
Speaking to Bole-based Nkilgi FM, the Savannah Regional Director of NADMO, Mr Zakariah Mahama, stated that the Gbiniyiri conflict had severely impacted many residents, forcing a significant number to flee their homes—some even crossing into Côte d’Ivoire for safety.
He noted that the government has since called on all displaced persons to return, and many have started coming back. As a result, NADMO has been visiting affected communities to assess the situation and reassure residents that they will continue to receive assistance as support becomes available.
Mr. Zakariah explained that the conflict had disrupted farming activities and affected livestock, deepening the hardship in the area.
He revealed that the current support package was made possible through contributions from former President John Dramani Mahama, NADMO, and the Ministry of the Interior. He assured residents that the items would be fairly distributed among those most in need.
While acknowledging that many communities remain affected, the Savannah Region Regional NADMO Director emphasized that support will be rolled out gradually, depending on the availability of resources.
Zakariah Mahama added that more visits and donations will be made in the coming days to other affected areas.
One of the beneficiaries in Bale, Janet Konetey, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the Savannah Regional NADMO Director, Mr. Zakariah Mahama, and his team for their continued support.
She also extended deep appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama, acknowledging his consistent care for the people of Bale since their return from Côte d’Ivoire.
“NADMO has not forgotten us" she said, adding that this was the second time the organization had brought relief items to Bale to help them cope with food shortages.
Janet praised President Mahama, describing him as “a man who truly loves Ghana”, and thanked him for his concern and support.
However, she also raised a concern, stating that animals had grazed on all their farms, worsening their situation.
She appealed to government agencies and benevolent individuals to come to their aid once again, especially with support for livelihood restoration and food security.
