The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon John Jinapor, who is also the Member of Parliament for Yapei-Kusawgu constituency in the Savannah Region, has donated a brand new GB Power Plant 100KVA capacity plant to the Damongo Nursing And Midwifery Training College.
The donation was made following an official request by the school management to the Energy minister to serve as an alternative power source
The Hon. DCE for Central Gonja District Fuseini Mahama represented Energy and Green Transition minister in a brief address during the presentation, he emphasized that John Jinapor's driving force is the need for a reliable energy supply for the country and its institutions. Consequently, the country is experiencing general power stability under his guidance as Energy Minister.
The plant will serve as an alternative power source for the school during power disruptions.
"Energy flow can be interrupted sometimes due to technical hitches. Therefore, the school requires an alternative power source to complement human capital development. We must create, prepare, and boost the future of our human resource base to assume leadership responsibilities when the current leaders retire."
Hon.Fuseini Mahama appealed to them to the management of the school to manage the plant well to ensure sustainable use.
The MCE for West Gonja Municipal, Yussif Yakubu Castro Jnr., has made a commitment that the government will take all necessary measures to make the Damongo Nursing And Midwifery Training College one of the top institutions in Ghana.
He hinted of the municipal assembly's plans of providing support for infrastructure development and tuition improvement in the school.
"The ambition of this institution is to become the premier Nursing And Midwifery Training College in Ghana. To realize this ambition, improvements in infrastructure, tuition, and learning are crucial. Hence, all stakeholders must collaborate to enhance performance and enable the school to achieve excellence."
He encouraged both tutors and learners to consider their learning first before any other issue. And noted that the learners must respect authority both in and out of school environment for a successful future.
According to Hajia Shelley Issah, Principal of the school, accredited institutions like Ghana Technical Education Commission (GTEC) and NMC have been pressuring the school management to obtain a power plant to boost accreditation prospects.
The donation marks a crucial step for the school, as it will expedite institutional accreditation and help achieve the school's long-term goal of offering specialized and degree programs.
The Principal noted that John Jinapor responded swiftly to the school's letter, and the power plant arrived at the school recently.
Hajia Shelley used the opportunity to thank Hon. John Jinapor and the government for the power plant donation and promised to utilize it for its intended purpose. She also assured the minister of implementing a robust maintenance culture to safeguard the power plant.
