A leading communications figure within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Savannah Region, Ridwan Afeso Abubakari, has formally declared his intention to contest for the position of Regional Communications Director, promising to usher in a new era of strategic, inclusive, and technology-driven political communication.
In a statement titled “A New Vision for Political Communications in the Savannah Region: Connect, Communicate & Compel for Victory 2028,” Abubakari said the NPP’s performance in the 2024 general elections highlighted the urgent need for a fresh and coordinated communication approach to reclaim voter confidence across the region.
“With over a decade of experience defending the NPP through serial calling, social media, radio and TV engagements, writing, and campaign management, I am ready to lead a transformative new chapter as the next Regional Communications Director,” he stated.
Six-Point Plan for Communication Renewal
Outlining his agenda, Abubakari proposed a six-point plan aimed at revitalizing the party’s messaging machinery in the region. His plan includes:
1. Strengthening ties between party leadership and communicators.
2. Providing resources and training to enhance the capacity of communication teams.
3. Empowering local voices to craft narratives that resonate with community needs.
4. Using new media and technology to reach and engage every voter.
5. Promoting accountability and transparency within party communications.
6. Ensuring active participation of female communicators in the regional communications structure.
According to him, his leadership would focus on building “a vibrant, motivated, and inclusive team capable of co-creating a powerful new story for the NPP ahead of the 2028 elections.”
Track Record and Experience
Abubakari recalled his contributions to reshaping public perception of the NPP in the Daboya/Mankarigu Constituency prior to the 2016 elections, describing his role in repositioning the party’s image as one of his most significant achievements.
“When our party was being misconceived and its image distorted, I was at the forefront of redefining what effective political communication meant at the local level,” he noted. “That legacy of persuasive public relations has since become a blueprint for many government communicators across the region and beyond.”
Currently serving as Deputy Communications Director for the NPP in the Savannah Region and Communications Director for the Regional Youth Wing, Abubakari emphasized that his experience places him in the best position to lead the communications directorate “without the need for a learning curve.”
He also highlighted his role in mentoring young communicators and establishing The Dream Patriots, a youth communication group that continues to champion the NPP’s message across the region.
Acknowledgment of Mentors
In expressing gratitude, Abubakari paid tribute to past Communications Directors who mentored him, including Mohammed Abdul-Kudus, Issahaku Abdul-Latif (of blessed memory), Mohammed Issah, Sule Salifu, and Frederick Abukari Tahiru.
Academic and Professional Background
A graduate in Public Administration and Information Studies, Abubakari also has professional training as a classroom facilitator. He believes this combination equips him with the skills necessary to manage information effectively and engage communities through strategic, people-centered communication.
“This decision is not just about seeking office; it is a declaration of intent and a commitment to push the boundaries of political communication in the Savannah Region,” he affirmed. “I understand the political and social landscape deeply, and I am ready to tailor communication strategies that reflect the realities of our people.”
Concluding his statement, Abubakari appealed for the support of party members across all levels, urging them to rally behind his vision.
“Look no further,” he declared. “Ridwan Afeso Abubakari is your best bet as the next Savannah Regional NPP Communications Director. Together, we will connect, communicate, and compel for victory in 2028. May Allah bless us all.”
