Vice President of the national house of chiefs and paramount chief of the Buipe traditional area Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II, has advocated for the need for peace and unity alongside the need for education.
Addressing the people of the chiefs and people of the Dwan traditional area during the 2024 annual Yam festival in the Sene West District of the Bono East Region on theme “Promoting Culture and Education Through Festivals: The Role of Traditional Leaders,” Buipewura Jinapor
emphasized the importance of culture and education as cornerstones of societal development.
"Our revered chiefs, education is the modern weapon for development.
"It empowers our people to achieve their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society," he noted, urging Dwanwura Okoforobour Awase Afura III and other traditional leaders to prioritize education as a lifetime project.
He highlighted the transformative role of chieftaincy in the 21st century, moving away from past conflicts to championing development through advocacy and leadership. "The era of guns and war is no more. We are now in the era of the stroke of the pen, which brings transformative change and livelihood improvement," he said.
Buipewura Jinapor II also called for strengthened unity among the Guan people, underscoring the need for a National Guan Council of Chiefs.
He disclosed further that the framework for the council’s establishment is near completion and pledged to spearhead efforts to ensure its realization.
"Building the Guan family is an unqualified gratitude to our deserving forebears," he stated.
Turning to the upcoming 2024 general elections, he urged Ghanaians to safeguard the country’s peace and democratic integrity.
"The 2024 election is described as 'No Winner, No Loser' because it involves two great sons of northern Ghana — John Dramani Mahama and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia," he remarked, encouraging the youth to resist being used for violence and urging the Electoral Commission to ensure credible, free, and transparent elections.
The Vice President of the National House of Chiefs expressed his profound appreciation to the Dwan Traditional Area and its leadership for their hospitality and for organizing a successful festival.
He concluded with a resounding call for peace, unity, and mutual respect among all Ghanaians.
The occasion brought together dignitaries from all walks of life including politicians and traditional leaders.
