Gonjaland Association Of North America (GANA) Supports 10 Needy But Brilliant Students In Savannah Region

 


The Gonjaland Association Of North America (G A N A) has on Sunday 22nd December,2024 supported 10 needy but brilliant students in the Savannah Region with cash amount of Ghc1600 to assist prepare them as the enter Senior High School.

The 10 students,7 females and 3 males who are from the various districts of the Savannah Region, accompanied by their families where very happy and grateful for the support from the Association.



Financial secretary of the Gonjaland Association Of North America, Mr Osman Abu Baba on behalf of the association indicated that the scholarship dubbed Professor Yakubu Saaka Merit Scholarship is focused on supporting brilliant but needy students in Gonjaland beginning with the 10 students. 

He said the scholarship is a contribution from members of the association in North America which they aim to increase the numbers in the coming years as the promotion and growth of education in Gonjaland is very paramount to them.

He mentioned that Professor Yakubu Saaka of blessed memory is founding member of the association thus, the scholarship is in his honour which members of the association are very proud of.

He used the opportunity to thank the people of Ghana for the honor done the Gonja Kingdom by voting massively for HE John Dramani Mahama,a son of the soil to steer the affairs of Ghana.


Mr Osman Abu Baba appealed to the President elect to consider building more schools especially teacher training colleges and universities in the Savannah Region since education in the region is lacking behind.


Chief Alhaji Njawura Issah Yahaya,a member of the Gonjaland Youth Association education committee chairman who doubles as the chairman for the occasion emphasized on the need for teaching and learning of the Gonja dialect in the various schools of the region.

He said the university of Winneba at a point nearly collapsed the Gonja department for lack of learning materials  which through the efforts of the Gonjaland Youth Association and the Gonjaland Association Of North America,some of the learning materials were reproduced.

He appealed to the Savannah College Of Education situated at Daboya in the North Gonja district of the Savannah Region to ensure the teaching and learning of Gonja is part and parcel of their studies in the school.

Vice President Of the Gonjaland Youth Association, Mr Issah Mastana on behalf of the association appealed to the beneficiary students to make good use of the support by buying all that the need for their studies.


He said many people in the region never had the opportunity they are getting today which they must utilize judiciously to encourage the association to do more for the kingdom.
