No More Sale Of Tramadol And Other Illicit Drugs In My Traditional Area-Buipewura Jinapor Declares

Buipewura Jinapor II

The Vice President of the National House of Chiefs and  paramount chief of the Buipe Traditional area,Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II has announced a strict ban on the sale and consumption of illicit drugs, as well as the operation of tricycles especially the popularly known "yellow yellow" by individuals below the age of eighteen within Buipe and its surrounding communities. This directive takes effect from Tuesday, 16th April 2025.

The announcement was made at the Buipewura’s Palace during a crucial meeting with key stakeholders aimed at addressing the growing concern over drug abuse and the increasing use of tricycles to commit crimes among the youth.

In attendance at the meeting were chiefs, imams, pastors, the newly confirmed District Chief Executive Mr. Fuseini Mahama, the District Coordinating Director, assembly members, the District Police and Military Commanders, the District Chief Fire Officer, pharmacists, chemical sellers, heads of various institutions, and members of the general public.

In his address, Buipewura expressed deep concern about the alarming rate at which young people are abusing hard drugs, often leading to criminal behaviour. He recounted reports of teenagers using tricycles late at night to rob passengers, break into homes and shops, and engage in other forms of theft—all traceable to drug-induced behavior.

He urged all community members to reflect on their actions and inactions, warning that the consequences of ignoring this growing menace could be both direct and indirect. He emphasized the need for voices of conscience to rise against societal wrongs, just as he is doing, to ensure a safer and more responsible community.

Buipewura Jinapor called on all stakeholder opinion leaders, families, and institutions to unite in guiding the youth toward a more productive path through education, entrepreneurship, and skills training. He encouraged the youth to strive for success through hard work and discipline, not through shortcuts fueled by substance abuse.

Sounding a strong warning, he cautioned those involved in the sale of illicit drugs to cease immediately or face the full weight of his authority. He instructed the district’s security heads to intensify efforts to arrest and prosecute offenders involved in the sale, distribution, or consumption of these harmful substances.

Furthermore, he directed the local taskforce to impound tricycles operated by underage individuals and to arrest anyone violating the curfew on tricycle operations. Specifically, no person below the age of eighteen is allowed to operate a tricycle, and no tricycle is to be on the road after 10:00 p.m. without a valid reason.

His Royal Majesty has spoken, and it is the collective responsibility of all residents to ensure these directives are respected and enforced for the betterment of the community.
