Paramount Chief Mankpanwura Achode      Borenyi Jakpa I has introduced an educational support program aimed at promoting education and empowering the youth in the Mankpan traditional area of the Savannah Region.

The announcement was made through a speech read on behalf of the Mankpanwura during the 2025 annual Damba festival, held at the Mankpan traditional area on Sunday, 25th September 2025.

A total of 30 tertiary students received financial assistance from Mankpanwura's educational support initiative, with each student receiving a cash award of Ghc1000.

The Mankpanwura, who also serves as a representative of the Council of State member, presented a female cow to the best JHS student in the area as part of his annual donation to promote education at the basic level.

Families of the beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the paramount chief's kind gesture. In his remarks, Mankpanwura Achode emphasized that in Gonja tradition, chiefs are not merely custodians of stools and skins but also peacemakers, reconcilers, and guardians of justice.

He indicated further that the ability of traditional leaders to preserve peace forms the very foundation upon which meaningful development is built. Peace according to him is not the absence of conflict but peace represents security, well being, justice and the assurance of sustainable livelihoods, hence, without peace no society can thrive.

He lamented on chieftaincy  succession disputes that has continued to be one of the greatest sources of conflicts in Ghana, adding that regrettably, successive governments have done little to codify customs and practices to address these recurring disputes in the country.

He advised that the development of the Mankpan traditional area will depend on the ability of the people in the area to live harmoniously and respect authority.

"A royal does not mock a Chief nor does a sub-chief disrespect his chief. Respect for one another is the bedrock of collective progress" he added.

Mankpanwura further appealed to the government and other stakeholders to prioritize the improvement of the road network in the area, health facilities and educational infrastructure within his traditional area since development in these sector will not only ease these daily struggles of the people but also open doors for greater opportunities for the youth and generations to come.

Hon. Mahama Fuseini, DCE for Central Gonja in an address on behalf of President Mahama assured the chiefs and people of the Mankpan traditional area of the massive developmental projects that are in the pipeline for the development of the area.

Hon Fuseini appealed for peace in the area since without peace, development can never take place.

He said there must be continuous unity amongst the chiefs in the area as every inhabitant in the area is looking up to them to help in pushing for the development of the area.
